How To Care For My Wrapped Vehicle: Vinyl Wrap Edition

Customized your vehicle with a new wrap but not sure how to care for it?

Unsure if you can take a vinyl wrap it through a car wash? Don’t know what products to use on your vinyl wrap? So many questions and we have the answers. Just like a high-quality paint job a vinyl wrap takes care and attention to keep it in good condition.

So here are some tips from our in-house professional wrapping specialists at We Wrap Anything to guide you through the steps of caring for a vinyl wrap.

WE WRAP ANYTHING’S TIPS FOR CARING FOR YOUR WRAPPED VEHICLE

  • HOW SHOULD I WASH MY VINYL WRAP?

We highly recommend washing your vehicle by hand, this is the safest way to ensure your wrap lasts.

You should first pre-rinse your vehicle

Then use a soft and clean cloth or sponge and gentle automotive detergent (PH Neutral) *being sure to avoid scrubbing too hard

Rinse with clean water after washing

Let the film dry naturally or use a squeegee to remove excess water

To finish, be sure to dry with a clean microfiber cloth to avoid water spots left on your wrap

*Make sure NOT to use a wax/polish on your matte wrap as it will leave spots on your wrap*

  • HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BE WASHING MY AUTOMOTIVE WRAP?

Once a week would be best to ensure a long life for your wrap.

Wash as needed if your vehicle starts to build up dirt and pollutants.

  • CAN I TAKE MY WRAPPED CAR THROUGH A CAR WASH?

Avoid taking your vehicle through an automatic brush car wash as the brushes may be too rough on the film leading to peeling or lifted edges. Water spray car washes should be safe for your wrap but again this is not the recommended option as you will not be in control of the washing/rinsing pressure and products being used. We recommend washing your car by hand whenever possible.

  • CAN I USE A POWER WASHER ON MY AUTOMOTIVE WRAP?

We do not recommend this but if you want to use a pressure washer, we recommend the following.

-Water temperature below 60 degrees Celsius

-Power wash settings below 2000 PSI

-Use a wide-angle spray setting

-Stand back least 12 inches from your vehicle

-Avoid spraying the edges of the wrap whenever possible to avoid damage to your wrap

  • WHAT CAN I DO FOR HARD TO REMOVE STAINS/SPOTS ON MY AUTOMOTIVE WRAP?

Hard to remove spots like bird droppings, insects, and tree sap need to be removed as soon as possible. The longer these spots are left to sit the harder they will be to remove. We recommend first soaking the area in warm soapy water before rinsing and then gently wiping away the spot. Be sure to follow with a clean microfiber cloth to dry the area.

For stubborn spots try popular spot/stain removers like 3M citrus base or Meguiar’s Gold Class™ Bug and Stain Remover to clean your wrap. Be sure to test the solution on a small area that isn’t easily visible to see how the cleaner

*remember to test the solution on a small unnoticeable part of the wrap to see how the cleaning solution reacts to the wrap before applying on a more visible part of the wrap*
